Monika, I live in Wilson and would be interested in your weight loss group in Goldsboro. I will be there on Friday, March 12th to meet with a client, but I can arrange my schedule to come whenever you meet. I look forward to hearing from you. Almand

Can you please tell me if you know how much the lady lost in 5 months that was on the show today March 8th. I thought she said 40 but my husband said she said 70. Did you see that part? Jodi

Sarah said she lost 40 pounds. I thank her for her candidness and honesty. She helped me to open my eyes. I have not been a friend to myself over the past 5 months either. I have been playing at loosing weight and have so many excuses for why I can't (don't) exercise. Thank you Sarah.

I heard 70 as well. This translates to 14 pounds per month, or 3.5 pounds per week. Seems unhealthy to me.

Isnt that unhealthy?!!?!?!?!? Oprah and other sources I have heard throughout my life have said it is healthy to lose about 2 lbs per week. How do you loose that much wieght that quickly?
            Not 5 Months

Yes this Maureen the blonde from the show yesterday and even though Dr. Phil said 5 months it was more like 7 months because I had lost 20 before his book came out but then started following it and the weight loss challenge. So I had a little head start. But work very hard at it, putting your mind to it and sticking to it makes all the difference in the world.

Keep in mind that some of the participants in the WLC are making MAJOR changes in their lives and eating styles.

If you habitually eat a large slice of cake two or three times a day, followed by 20-30 oz of pop. THEN, add it fatty meals on top of that, AND mindlessly eating in front of the television while you sit on your duff all day...THE POUNDS WILL DROP when you suddenly cut out all the junk foods and eat only a specified times and in specified areas and eat only certain foods. Add exercise into the equation...and voila... very easily you can drop a bunch of weight.

Keep in mind that the weight loss is over a period of time. While initially you may lose 10-15-20 pounds in the first few weeks, just from the changes you've made, that will level off to 1-2-3 pounds a week and stay at that average so long as you continue working at it.

I speak from experience on this. I used to begin my day with a half bag of chocolate cookies and 2-3 glasses of pop. For a snack, I'd have more cookies or cake, more pop. For lunch, I'd have cream soup, followed by a slab of cake and more pop...Snack on cake, cookies, chips, pop, what ever I could find. Supper, mashed potatoes, gravy, fatty meatloaf, biscuit or bun, with dessert, of course. Snack around 8. Another snack before bed.

Meanwhile, I did little for activity all day. Really, the twelve steps to our basement to use the computer was my exercise for the day.

I changed my diet completely, cut out the pop, junk food, sweets, fatty foods, started eating veggies, fruits and low fat meats, drinking LOTS of water, AND STARTED EXERCISING. Since January 19, I've lost 39 lbs, 10 of which were in the first two weeks.

AND, I still eat 1200-1300 calories a day. JUST healthy calories that are used in my new very active lifestyle.

Does anyone know if Dr. Phil has ever had a weight problem? He is such a big man that I think he can weigh alot and still look good.

Dr. Phil would not look good with a pot belly, I am sure he has to work at keeping himself fit.

In Dr. Phil's ultimate weight solution book he mentions that he gives credit to a lifetime in athletics and his love of tennis for sparing him from obesity. He also lifts weights and excercises at a high level of intensity. He also mentions that there was a time when he could not hold onto his target weight despite his efforts. He was having trouble with his blood sugar and triglycerides. After he knew the problem he was able to take the necessary steps to correct it. So, in answer to your question, it doesn't seem like he has ever had a weight problem.

Dr Phil looks just perfect to me, and remember television is said to make a
person look 10 lbs heavier. He is a big
man but solid if you saw him in his running shorts. Who want's a skinny man anyway.

Sara, Thomas's comments about you on the show today hit home with me! He said that you were different than everyone in your challenge group because you didn't have a clear image of where you wanted to get down to with your weight because you had not been at a "normal" weight before in your life. That is true with me, too. I have been overweight my entire life. How do you overcome that obstacle in your brain? I have no clue what I would look like if I lost all the weight I need to lose. I just know that I want to lose it, but I don't want that "mental" image that I don't have to stand in my way!

Speedmllr, you are right. Sounds like a "bing" moment to me. I've been overweight for the majority of my life also. I guess now that I think about it, I don't have a mental image in my head. Good point, how do we get past this? I'm still struggling with this.

Just so you all know, I have been fighting the battle of the bulge for years, and although I have not read the book, I follow the show. This group of people should be
applauded for what they have done. I have
lost 31 lbs since Nov. following a low
carb and no sugar diet. I have always loved
carbs but now it is getting easier.
I find that waking up every morning and
telling myself to be strong and eat healthy
helps. It all starts in the head....How many
of you eat eat eat and your not even hungrey?
Nervous? Depressed? Need Comfort? It's all starts in your brain. Good luck to all!!

Those comments also hit home for me! I'm 22 and I can't remember ever being at a healthy weight. The lowest I have been is around the 190's. I have made it there now from 220 and that maybe why I can't seem to budge past it. However watching todays show gave me a ton of hope and motivation because I am close to Sara's age and feel similar of what she is going through. It was a big eye opener and I thank Sara for sharing her journey!
