I wonder who was more nervous for this interview? Dr. Phil and Robin or President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush?

What a fun combination to have a chat! I can't wait to see this show.

Way to go Dr. Phil and Robin (you meet the coolest people, don't you?)
Two thumbs up to our President and his most gracious wife.

To quote a usually bright and perceptive guy: Dr. Phil, "If you don't stand for something you'll fall for anything."

You've been seduced by power, Dr. Phil and friends. Unfortuantely, Mr. Bush is not just another good ole boy. He has taken huge amounts of money from oil interests and has become a war criminal by killing innocent Iraqis in order to try to maintain US control of the middle east. Never mind that oil interests killed members of the Iran government in the early 50s, and that they have blocked research on energy independence for years. I suppose as long as you say you love your children you can kill anybody who's not American. This was disgusting behavior from someone who should know better.

I think it is interesting that everyone that has written a comment about this show has taken the opportunity to share their political opinion about each candidate when that is not what the show was about or intended to be about. The show's purpose was to share with us who these men are and that they ARE real people with real families living real lives, cooking, cleaning, disciplining children, loving their families and people. George Bush is NOT a terrosist nor is he killing innocent Iraqis in order to maintain US control of the middle east. Innocent people dying in Iraq is unfortunately a casualty of war and the war was brought on by Saddam's actions, not George W. Bush. Bush went to war to win freedom for the Iraqi people because he loves them and he wants them to be able to live the kind of life we have here in America. I know personally of an Iraqi man (Baghdad) who is so very thankful for what President Bush has done and this man has led 500 Iraqi people to have freedom of religion for the first time EVER in their country. This is a good start, I would say.

The reason we are "going it alone" is because of the interests other countries had in the oil money. France and Germany were getting kickbacks in the united nations for approving an "Oil for food" process in which Iraq was promised money for oil to be used for food. Well, of course Saddam didn't use it for food and these countries knew it and in order to keep their mouths shut he paid them kickbacks. Of course these countries didn't want to go up against Saddam because then they would lose millions of dollars.

Just remember, there is another side to every thing you hear and not everything you hear is the truth. I think what Dr. Phil was trying to do was present these two candidates as real people instaed of just runors of what you hear they are or aren't doing.

In a time when our country is standing on the edge of terror, can we not come together unified behind our president and save our tyrrany for election day?

i "Bush went to war to win freedom for the Iraqi people because he loves them and he wants them to be able to live the kind of life we have here in America."

Bush loves the Iraqi people? Why does he not hear their cries to stop killing their loved ones? You are disillusioned if you think for one second Bush is doing this out of the goodness of his heart. Economic gain and power is the center of survival of the fittest.

I suppose it won't hurt him to have greater control of the oil markets in the process too, eh?

"would you rather he waited and have them bomb us again and kill more of us."

I wasn't aware that Sadaam bombed us on 9/11. The last that I heard, it was Al Quaeda and not Iraq. I guess that you have a little more information than the rest of the world. I also guess that the Iraqi 9/11 is somewhere in la la land with the WMD that we still haven't found. Are those the bombs that we need to be worried about? We have more to fear from North Korea, who has admitted to having nuclear weapons, than we ever did from the insane Sadaam.

I lost a loved one in the Iraqi war and I strongly believe that his death was as senseless, gruesome, and horrific as the deaths of so many on 9/11. Remember that we have added 1057 dead to the 9/11 death toll. Try walking in those family members' shoes and see how well they fit and how good they feel.

God Bless You and I'm praying for all of us that the arrogance clearly demonstrated by Bush during last week's debate ends on November 2nd.

If we had a magic ball and could see into the future that we would not find the weapons as easily as hoped, you and other liberals would be right. maybe we should have done things differently. If we could go back in time what would you be saying if with the same information we did nothing! We were hit with a nuclear weapon. Who would you be blaming? I'm sure the President for not protecting us!! hind sight is 20/20!!! you ca'nt have it both ways!

Hitler did not bomb Pearl Harbor in 1941 but FDR went to war against ALL Fascism. President Bush has gone to war against ALL terrorism. Our military is doing a courageous job and not one of their deaths can be called senseless when they are protecting us.

On Sept. 12, 2001, would any American have believed the President if he declared that we will not be attacked on American soil in the next 3 years? And yet we have not.

If we want to go back to Sept. 10, 2001 mentality of talking tough and not doing a thing against terrorism, vote for Kerry. The terrorists will love him.

                The terrorists fear Bush.

If the Republican party is against ALL terrorism, then why did the Reagan administration give millions in arms, training and support to Osama Bin Ladin and the Taliban when they were in a war with Russia in the 80s. Why did Bush Sr call Saddam a good friend and give his regime aid AND WEAPONS before they stupidly invaded Kuwait? Why did the US support the overthrow of a democratically elected president in Chile (Salvador Allende) by the bloodthirsty dictator Pinochet? They armed him too. Why did the US support the bloody regime in El Salvador when they killed thousands of their people (and some american nuns)? They trained them, armed them and taught them how to torture their political prisoners in the most beneficial way? Why do they support the regime in Saudi Arabia today when they stone women for driving a car? I'm always amazed and saddened when Americans spout out words like FREEDOM and JUSTICE like they invented them. To millions of people around the world America is not synonomous with Freedom and Justice.
What happened on 9-11 was barbaric and cruel and there was NO JUSTIFICATION for that kind of behaviour. But before you send your soldiers out to "free the world", maybe you should learn a bit about the rest of the world and its relationships with America in the last 40 years. Ignorance will only lead to disaster.
I'm sorry for your lost loved one in Iraq.

It seems to me, from the men and women I have met who are choosing to enlist at this time, that they know why they are going to war and the risks involved. Try to think what the world would be like if we had refused to send our finest to wipe out the scourge of Facism? Do you think those who were terrorized daily by Saddam and his vicious sons deserved to live in fear and completely oppressed?
I am the mother of a 19 year old daughter and an 18 year old son, one of whom has enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and one who is enlisting after the first of the new year. And I have a nephew serving now. They believe that protecting those who can't protect themselves is a reason for living--and sometimes, for dying. I pray that not one more of our service men dies anywhere in the world. But they are going willingly to help make the rest of us (not just Americans, but all people who want to live in peace and freedom), safer.
Please, learn more about Saddam Hussein and his wicked family before you say that he had nothing to do with 9/11.
God Bless Pres Bush and the United States of America.

Take a look at GWB's history and the history of his richelieu Dick Cheney. The PNAC and georges own slips point out the falacies in your position. Remaaining uninformed is the best way to lose the liberties this administration has been working to co-opt.
Try talking with someone in Iraq to see if innocents are "casualties of war" or members of others families being killed to satisfy the Bush families greed. Families First, remember?

If GWB was going to war for freedom and love of the Iraqi people, he should have told Congress that before the vote. I'm not sure how many Americans would have been willing to risk their lives in Iraq for Iraqi freedom. If Iraqi's want freedom, then they have to fight for it. It wasn't the French or Germans who fought the British for America's freedom. It was Americans. I think it's so interesting how the Republicans have done such a huge flip flop. They used to boast of not supporting the use of our military for nation building. What do they call what we're doing in Iraq? I call it cleaning up the Bush mess, but it's really nation building. They used to boast of being fiscally conservative and fiscally responsible. GWB is neither. He just doesn't like to make tough choices. If we're going to nation build, then we need a draft so that we have the military to do that. If we're going to solve our problems by unilaterally going to war with all of the enemies who might eventually harm us, then we need to figure out how we're going to pay for that and have the size of military that can get the job done right. Tax cuts aren't going to do it. I've always admired Dr. Phil's views on money management. Unfortunately, his ole Texan buddy can't manage money, can't make tough choices, can't be candid about his decision to invade Iraq or the current circumstances there. As Dr.Phil always says, "How can you fix what you can't acknowledge." I know this has nothing to do with families, and everything to do with politics, but I don't really care about GWB's opinion about how to raise children. I care about his actions that will affect the children in this country. If he cared about our children, he would use war as a last resort. If he cared about our children, he would make health care affordable. If he cared about our children, he would be a role model in terms of working with leaders in other countries, so that we aren't acting alone. If he cared about our children, he'd support innitiative that protect the environment. If he cared about our children, he'd manage his budget so that our children aren't stuck paying for his debt. GWB only cares about his rich buddies and himself. Dr.Phil- you were too easy on him. I hope that you went equally easy on Senator Kerry.

Quick question: Didn't the French help us win the Revolutionary war? I was under the impression that we probably couldn't have won without their help. Granted they didn't start the war for the United States...but they did help didn't they?

Maybe it's the short memory of Americans that makes it hard to relate to the culture of the Middle East. 200 years isn't much when your traditions and beliefs can stretch back to Abraham and further.

Yes, the French did assist us because WE ASKED THEM TO. We had leaders that met with French leaders and we ASKED FOR THEIR ASSISTANCE. A bit different then running into a country with our guns ready and our bullets loaded. And, France has always been a wonderful friend and alli for us...oh wait until our ol GW...now they hate us as well...like most of the planet. We can not make the world perfect. We need to focus more on our own country. We have alienated our closest friends...countries we need to depend on and have good relations with. Bush is not GI JOE, and we are not invincible...if 9/11 taught us anything it is that. Making enemies the world over is not how to avoid more attacks, I'm sorry it isn't...global climate is very important. We can't do everything alone, we are one of many many countries on this planet. Its time we learned to work with them, not against them.

France has not always been a good alli. They have resented the US for a long time, long before GWB became President. They helped us in the Revolutionary War because they hated Britain more. There has been a tenuous relationship between Europe and the US long before either Gulf War.

You're right. The world is not perfect. Sadam didn't bomb us. Yes, we do need to look after our own interests. However, the Taliban (Afghanistan) and Osama was a threat, and we're dealing with that. Also, Sadam was a threat. He didn't bomb us, but he was getting really close. Perhaps there weren't WMD's (or were they quickly exported when the war began?). However, Al Quaida didn't use WMD's either. We aren't invincible, and yes, 9/11 reminded us of this. No, we can't do everything alone. We asked others for help, and we are receiving help from Britain, Australia, Japan, and other countries. It is disappointing that some of our allies (France, Germany, Russia) aren't helping us. However, one must wonder if oil was more important than freeing a country from a cruel madman dictator?

So, when are we going to free all of the other countries under the control of dictators? Bush said we were going to war in Iraq because of WMD. Period. He didn't say we were going to free people from saddam. He didn't say we were going to spread democracy. Get real.

You are exactly right. We asked for their assistance and regardless of their motivation they gave it to us. Believe it or not my comment (above) was not a political or foreign policy statement. I shudder to think that it may have been read as such. But frankly the statement "it wasn't the French or Germans who fought the British for America's freedom. It was Americans." is wrong. We didn't do it alone then. We needed help. The question is: do we still need it? How many people have to ASK before it is considered a serious request? Personally, I don't know. It's a tough call to make.

on june 7 2003 when u.s. forces were in pursuit of saddam and his sons they set fire upon a collection of cars going across into syria. approximately 80 people died and this included persons who lived in this neighbourhood. The intelligence turned out to be wrong. No saddam and no sons.It just so happens the people were smugglers trying to avoid syrian taxes. unfortuately all were dead by the time this was known. so much for bush's 'obligation to foster and encourage respect for life in america and throughout the world'.

Standing up and applauding! Bush heard the cries of the Iraqi people and put Sadam out of power. Sadam was killing and maiming thousands of Iraqui citizens. War is awful, no doubt about it. However, I wonder how many thousands of people's lives have been saved because Sadam is out of power? Bush has not lied to the nation. True, some of what he claimed has been discovered to be false, but that doesn't make it a lie. Lies imply deceit and I do not believe Bush tried to deceive the nation or the world. Having met the President (well, both Presidents Bush) myself, I believe this family to be genuine, warm, and really does have the nation's best interests at heart.

Anyway, I appreciated both interviews the McGraws conducted. I was glad to see the more human touches and personal sides to both couples. After all, we only get to see the political rhetoric and spin (and yes, both sides spin) on TV and the internet. It's refreshing to be reminded that these couples are more than their political offices and aspirations.

Although I don't trust Kerry's record and strongly support Bush, one of these families will be in the White House next year. After elections are over and done, we as a nation need to unite and support whoever gets elected. Our nation has a lot of healing to do, and I hope whoever is in the White House in January will help unite the country.
