-- Nadya SulemanDr. Phil Also Discusses New Information Nadya Shared With Him Prior To Today’s Taping, Which Will Air in Part Two
(Los Angeles, CA, February 24, 2009) -- In a very candid and compelling conversation that delves deeper into the situation that confronts Nadya Suleman, the mother of 14 children, including newborn octuplets, Dr. Phil McGraw speaks with both Suleman and her own mother, in a special DR. PHIL, which will be broadcast in two parts, Wednesday, February 25th and Thursday, February 26th (check your local listings).
Dr. Phil will also discuss what transpired in the phone call he received from Nadya today, moments before he taped segments that will air in Thursday’s show.
In a wide-ranging conversation, Dr. Phil discusses with Suleman why people in America are so upset about her situation, her questionable plans for the babies’ future, and why she made the decision to get pregnant again when she already had six children and no means of support.
“I came into this interview with a mission and a purpose...to put those 14 children above all else,” Dr. Phil said. “I wanted to see if I could get answers from Nadya that would enable people in America to get past their resentment and frustrations…and maybe, if I could get those answers, we could get things back on track. Both Nadya and her mother sat down with me knowing I was going to ask the hard questions, and that I would keep at it until I got the answers,” Dr. Phil explained, and added: “We can’t turn our back on this woman without turning our back on these children.”
In Part Two, he invites Nadya’s mother Angela to sit down with both himself and Nadya, and is invited to share his assessment of the Nadya’s situation with both women: “I see somebody I do believe is very loving, but I see somebody that has such a Pollyanna disconnect with real-world realities, and what she’s getting ready to face, it’s like she’s on a Disney ride.” He also discusses with Angela why she took Nadya to a psychologist several years ago, and finally, Dr. Phil offers his opinion on exactly what he thinks is really going on here, explaining to both Nadya and her mother: “Sometimes you make the right decision, and sometimes you have to make the decision right.”
