          Alienation of Affection

          May 13, 2010

Alienation of affection just might be the ultimate revenge on a husband’s mistress. In a daytime exclusive, Dr. Phil talks to Cindy Shackelford, who sued the woman she claims stole her husband ” and won big! And, Dr. Phil meets with Jenny Sanford, who says she was shocked when her husband, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, took his betrayal public.

          A Stunning Legal Victory
Cindy Shackelford was a North Carolina housewife and mother of two who thought she was happily married to a successful attorney for 32 years, when it all came crashing down. She tells Dr. Phil about the lies, betrayal and ultimate decision to sue her husband’s mistress for alienation of affection, which awarded her with $9 million.

“She was just totally after him.”

          A Family Torn Apart

Dr. Phil meets Cindy’s children, Amy, 27, and David, 23. How have they been impacted by their parents’ divorce and resulting lawsuit?

“There are days that I completely break down because I don’t have a father figure in my life.”

          Not By His Side

After nearly 20 years of marriage, Jenny Sanford was shocked when her husband, South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford, took his betrayal public. Unlike many political wives, Jenny chose not to stand by her man during his national press conference and filed for divorce. The former first lady and author of the book, Staying True, reveals how she refused to allow the scandal to rob her of her dignity.

“I’ve chosen to move on, and I’ve chosen to be happy about it.”
