She Lost Weight, He Lost His Temper

          September 07, 2012

Kim says she and her husband, Chris, were happily married for 10 years — until she lost a staggering 220 pounds! She says as the weight fell off, Chris’ temper intensified. With a renewed self-esteem, Kim says she won’t stand for verbal abuse, and she’s ready to call it quits. Chris says his wife is the one who changed, and he’s certain that she’s been unfaithful. Did Kim stray? What does Dr. Phil think is at the root of Chris’ rage? And, can Kim and Chris salvage their marriage? Then, when Stacey last appeared on Dr. Phil, she said she was ready to marry her boyfriend, Stephen — only if he tamed his controlling ways. But, the night before the interview, a heated argument in the couple’s hotel room landed Stephen in jail — and Stacey on the show alone. After a week locked up, Stephen is out and prepared to tell his side of the story. How much responsibility does he accept for their fight?

She Lost Weight, He Lost His Temper

Kim says she was living her happily ever after with her husband of 10 years, Chris — until gastric bypass surgery helped her slim down — and Chris’ rage escalated. Kim says her newfound self-esteem gave her the confidence to find her independence, and Chris is insecure about their relationship. Chris says that he knows he’s a negative person and has lashed out violently against his wife, yet he blames Kim for their problems. “When Kim lost the weight, she lost herself,” he says. Now, the couple says they are at a crossroads in their marriage. Can Dr. Phil help them find their way? “This can get better,” he tells them.

          Stacey and Stephen: The Update

When Stacey last appeared on Dr. Phil, she said she was ready to marry her boyfriend, Stephen — only if he tamed his controlling ways. But, the night before the interview, a heated argument in the couple’s hotel room landed Stephen in jail for cohabitation abuse — and Stacey on the show alone. Learn what happened during that fight. After a week locked up, Stephen is out and prepared to tell his side of the story. He calls the incident a “silly, stupid argument,” adding he “sat in jail as an innocent man.” He admits he shouldn’t have touched Stacey during their fight, but maintains that he didn’t assault her, and even blames her for creating the argument and provoking him. Do Stacey’s bruises prove otherwise? Dr. Phil has some hash words for Stephen, including calling into question why Stephen defied his strict pre-show orders.

Then, Stacey’s sister, Jennie, shares her concerns. She says she believes Stephen has Stacey brainwashed, and should the couple reconcile, she fears Stacey may never come home to face her family. What does Dr. Phil think?

Stephen faces Dr. Phil and insists he’s an innocent man. Plus, why does Dr. Phil say Stephen defied his orders?

Has this experience been a wake-up call for Stephen? Dr. Phil has his doubts.

Stacey’s sister, Jennie, speaks out for her family.
