Does Text Message From Man With Missing Wife Shed Light On Their Relationship?

          June 3, 2016

Ed’s wife, Carie Zapletal, has been missing since December 2014, when she disappeared from their home leaving behind her wallet, phone and car. Ed says that he believes Carie was severely depressed, and overwhelmed caring for him after his stroke, and that she has just gone off the grid.

“I think she does not want to be found,” says Ed, who is ‘convinced’ that Carie is still alive.

However, Carie’s daughter, Shelbie, says she fears that her mom is dead and was the victim of foul play at the hands of Ed.

“I truly believe that my mother’s husband, Ed, had something to do with my mother’s disappearance,” says Shelbie, who has been desperately searching for her mother. “The relationship between my mom and Ed was abusive, physically and mentally. They fought all the time.”

Ed denies the accusations and says that he was “physically incapable of getting out of bed,” when Carie disappeared, and there’s no way he could have harmed her. He claims that Carie was the one who was abusive toward him, and he only acted in self-defense during their arguments.

“One night, Carie and I started arguing, and she hit me in the head pretty hard. I saw stars,” he claims.

But does a text message that Ed sent to one of Carie’s friend’s husband’s a few months after Carie’s disappearance reveal otherwise?

In the video above, Dr. Phil questions Ed about the text message which reads in part: She pissed me off so bad, I wanted to choke her but I didn’t have the strength.

“She pissed me off by hitting me. That’s when I got pissed,” Ed says.

“Did you choke her”? Dr. Phil asks.

“No. I wanted to, but I didn’t have the … I mean, I wanted to defend myself but I didn’t have the strength,” Ed says.

When Ed said he wanted to choke his wife, did he mean he wanted to kill her? Dr. Phil presses him for answers in the video above. And, on Friday’s episode, Dr. Phil tries to get to the bottom of why a 48-year-old woman left her house in December without a coat, phone, wallet or car and hasn’t been heard from since.
