Signs of Intoxication and Drunk Driving

Statistics show that every 50 minutes, someone is killed in an alcohol-related crash. Capt. Ivan Minsal of the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division explains the top seven signs of intoxication and how to spot a drunk driver on the roadways:

Signs of Intoxication:
1) Bloodshot eyes
2) Not paying attention
3) Disheveled clothes
4) Needs to hold onto something to keep balance
5) Slurred speech
6) Not attentive to conversation
7) Denial

Signs of a Drunk Driver:
1) Tailgating
2) Weaving and zig-zagging
3) Erratic braking
4) Driving 10 mph slower than posted speed limit
5) Turning illegally
6) Driving with headlights off at night
7) Straddling the center lane
8) Quick acceleration followed by sudden deceleration

Capt. Minsal says if you spot a suspected drunk driver, get the vehicle description and license plate number, and pull over to the side of the road before you call police to report them.
