Day 14 footnote: All of us have unique talents, skills, and characteristics. They are God-given gifts that are unique to each one of us. Acknowledging and articulating the gifts that we observe in our partners can be very affirming. Think carefully about the gifts that you see and experience in your partner, and describe them fully and with passion.
Clearly, this is not a complete program. Almost every day from here on out will test your ability to reconnect. You'll still have to confront the negative thinking and bad spirit that has hampered your relationship in the past. You'll strive constantly to revise your distorted thinking about your partner, and you'll continue to need to work on building the right spirit. You'll have to practice, practice, practice. But after these fourteen days you'll be on the right track.
Make a life decision about your relationship in the form of a jointly drafted mission statement for your relationship. This mission statement will be all about defining your relationship in terms of your hopes, dreams, and commitments. By jointly drafting a mission statement, you create a reference point upon which you can constantly focus to keep your relationship on track.
