          Child Caught in the Middle

          July 22, 2009

Divorce is well known to be a source of pain, bitterness, and often conflict. When parents who have split up carry their fight beyond the divorce, the child is usually the one caught in the crossfire. So is the situation for 15-year-old Matthew, who is caught in a feud that’s making him physically sick.

          Parents at War
Dr. Phil sits down with Ronald and Cathie, who say they both love their son, Matthew, tremendously, though what they feel for each other is a different story. For them, is it more about being right than doing the right thing for their child? What does Matthew think?

“As far as I can tell, my mother is a liar, a cheater. Everything she says is a broken promise.”

          Sick of the Pressure
Cathie is back in her son’s life, but Matthew is having a hard time adjusting. In fact, the stress is making him literally sick, and he vomits up to 40 times a day. Dr. Phil meets one-on-one with the teen.

Why does Matthew want a relationship with his mother?
