A Tough Assignment
Chris and Stacy reminisce about when they first met nine years ago, and what happened since then.

Now that Stacy and Chris have taken Dr. Phil's Relationship Health Profile, they review the results.

Stacy's test revealed that she's dissatisfied with her sex life and that her relationship lacks passion. She scored a 32; any score of 32 and above indicates that a relationship is in extreme danger of failing. "That doesn't surprise me at all," she says of her test results.

Chris, who scored a 36 on his test, says, "It's a sad confirmation of what I feel my relationship has been. I feel like I've come full circle and I'm still no better off."

Stacy blames herself for the plight of her marriage. "I'm angry that my life is the way that it is right now," she sobs. "I feel sad that our relationship has gotten to this point."

Chris met Stacy nine years ago in college, and recalls being attracted to her because she was well educated and easy to talk to. To ask her out on date, he wrote a note in her day planner inviting her to dinner.

Stacy was intrigued by Chris' bold act. "It took a lot of guts for him to just walk over to my day planner and pencil in 'dinner,' especially with me because I can be real intimidating," she says. "I'd love to see him get some of that gusto back."

Chris now feels pressure to be the man Stacy was initially attracted to. "Quite a few times I felt that Stacy wanted me to be someone else or to be someone different," he explains. "I don't want to feel like I have to be something that I'm not. Plain and simple, I want to be me. I've got to go back to finding who that person is."

Stacy admits that marriage has changed her as well. "I've just become pessimistic," she says. "I don't know where that came from, because it wasn't always there. The responsibilities and the choices that he's made, and that I've made, have just kind of stamped out the fun-loving aspect of life."
