"Somebody I didn't know stole my pictures from my MySpace and posted it on TheDirty," Bruna says. "So, I went on it, and I saw all these things, like, I looked like a transvestite, I needed a nose job, I has STDs, I slept around, and I gave my stepfather a *. Horrible things that just tore me apart. It's cyberbullying. It got to the point where I didn't want to go out, or I couldn't have my pictures taken. I have a really hard time trusting people now. I absolutely hate that website, and it just really tears you down. This Nik guy, it's going to be interesting to meet him. I don't know why somebody would want to hurt me so bad the way they did, and I get teary-eyed over it, but " " Bruna takes a minute to fight back her tears. "Sorry. Hard to deal."
Bruna is visibly upset after seeing her taped interview. She wipes her tears away.
Dr. Phil shows the photo that was posted on Nik's website. He tells Nik, "You say you just want to hold people accountable. And she needs to be held accountable for this picture in what way?"
"Well, to me, the way I think is a little bit different, but I look at that picture, and knowing the nightlife and knowing the people in it, she looks like the typical person," he says.
"Don't judge a book by its cover. Have you ever learned that?" Bruna asks.
"Always judge a book by its cover," Nik counters.
Dr. Phil wants Nik to explain why her photo stood out as someone who needed to be mocked. "Is it the bracelet? Is it the dress? Is it the jacket?" he asks.
"It could be the orange skin, it could be the self tan, it could be a million things, but here's my thing, I don't know you " "
[AD]"Exactly," Bruna says.
"You put your picture on MySpace. You asked for the attention. It got brought to me," he says.
"I had no idea it was going to be stolen first off! Secondly, that's my first photo shoot I ever did. Obviously, I didn't have practice. But because of that, I don't do anything. Because of you, in a way. You pretty much ruined my life because of that," she says, growing tearful.
"It's not because of me; it's because of your friend, or the person who actually submitted it to me," Nik says.
Dr. Phil reviews the comments that were posted on Bruna's photo: "‘She looks like a tranny.' ‘Alcoholic and druggie.' ‘Not up to par.' ‘Stop giving Washington a bad name.' ‘She gave her stepfather a * in exchange for a boob job.' ‘She's got herpes.' ‘She could use a nose job.'"
"These are all third-party comments," Nik says.
Bruna points out that Nik writes his own comment on each picture that he posts. Although he doesn't remember what he wrote about her, Bruna does. "You said I looked like a man, as a matter of fact," she says. "You have no idea what I want through, and you don't know what other people went through."
"I have a ton of people e-mailing me every day, saying, ‘Thank you, Nik, for saving me from going down a dark path I shouldn't have gone, into drugs and alcohol,'" he explains.
[AD]"Oh, my God! You're a joke!" she tells him.
"I hope this makes you feel better," he says.
"Put profit aside for a minute. Do you think this hurt this girl's feelings?" Dr. Phil asks him.
"One hundred percent," he says.
"Do you care about that at all?"
Nik says he's become a celebrity of sorts because of the website. He gets paid for advertising, merchandise and to appear at clubs. "There are more people who like this site than hate it," he says. "Every week, I'm in a different city, and I have fans. I don't know what to tell you."
"How are you going to feel when somebody kills themselves because of your website?" Bruna asks.
"I would say they're obviously looking for attention because they shouldn't have gone there in the first place," he says.
An outraged Bruna asks, "Are you serious?!"
[AD]Nik thinks Bruna has made some changes since her photo hit his website. "It looks like this picture affected her in a positive way, because she looks well put together now, and she looks great," he says. Nik says he thinks Bruna is a stronger person for having been on his site.
Bruna admits she may be stronger, but at what cost? She says she can't go out because people recognize her and bring up all the horrible comments that were posted. "You're a joke, dude. Seriously," she tells him.
