Dr. Phil's Get Real Retreat Update: Paige

In Love with Mr. Wrong

Paige tells Dr. Phil that after wasting two years of her life, she recently realized that the married man she was involved with is a liar.

Dr. Phil explains that the real work happens not in the retreat, but when the guests go home. All their problems will still be there unless they make different choices. "Have you made different choices?" he asks her.

"I've made different choices, yes," she says. "I decided within just [the last] few weeks that he didn't matter as much as I thought he did, but it took that long. It took months after the retreat for things to start getting real. It took bits of information, replay of circumstances, things that had been said, exercises that we did and ongoing friendship with the 13 other people, and the support that they provided me over the last few months. I knew I wasn't going to leave the retreat out of love with him. I knew that. I didn't know it would take as long as it did to come to my senses, but I've come to my senses."

"Life is managed; it is not cured, so it is a process," Dr. Phil says. "And you did make some great relationships in there, right? I mean, you 14 are like a band of brothers. It's like you've been to hell and back together, and you've stayed very much in contact, right?"

"Yes, we are all in contact," Paige says.

[AD]"And they've been giving you grief about continuing to focus on this guy."

"I won't say they've been giving me grief or passing judgment. They're just concerned," she says.

"Well, I don't want them to pass judgment, but I do want them to give you grief," Dr. Phil tells her. "I wanted them to just give you unshirted hell, because I don't want you wasting your life."

"I don't want to waste my life. I don't want to spend another day feeling like I've felt for two long years," Paige says.
