Follow-Ups: Jennifer

Jennifer and Jeffrey's marriage had all the twists and turns of a Hollywood movie. After their last appearance on the show, Jeffrey violated a restraining order and ended up behind bars for two months. Jennifer filed for divorce, packed up her family and moved. Jeffrey does not know where they live and cannot contact them for two years. Now, Jennifer is trying to rebuild her life as a single, working mom.

"Since I was on the show, things have changed dramatically," Jennifer says. "I have moved to a different state. I have a great job. My kids seem to be a lot calmer. I feel safer. I don't feel like Jeffrey is following right behind me and watching my every move.

"I would say that I have tons more self-respect now. It feels good to know that I'm doing a great job. My kids tell me all the time what a great mom I am.

When my kids ask me about their dad, I tell them that he's not able to be around us right now. I never say negative things about their dad in front of them. I just want them to know that their dad does love them, but he's not doing the right things.

"To anybody in a similar situation, I would say, 'Run,'" she says, her voice beginning to quaver. "'It's going to be tough. It's going to be the hardest thing you've ever done. And if you have kids, you're going to have to deal with lots of questions and things that go on, but it's so worth it. And don't let anybody push you around.' I want to tell Dr. Phil and all the people there, thank you. None of them will ever know the impact that they've had on my life and my kids' lives."

"It is so good to see you and hear your voice," Dr. Phil tells Jennifer. "So, tell us what's going on."

"I am still waiting for the divorce to be final," Jennifer says. "We've been to court a couple times for child support issues and things like that, but I no longer have to go to those. He was released from jail in June."

"How long did he spend in jail?" Dr. Phil asks.

"He was in there for two months. I went to his court hearing, and luckily, I did not have to testify. They didn't need my testimony, thank goodness, because he plea bargained out of it instead of going through a trial."

"Was he in the court room with you?"

"He was. He was in his orange jumpsuit and everything," she explains. "It was a little strange and unusual. A little weird situation to be in, but it feels good because I think he finally got what was coming to him for what he's been doing to us."

"Yeah, it's been a long road, but tell us how you're doing now," Dr. Phil says.

"I am doing excellent," she says. "It's tough because it's all on me now ... I just want my kids to be safe, and for me to be safe, and I've never felt so safe as I have since I've been away from him."

"Jennifer, we're going to stay in touch with you." Dr. Phil promises.

"Thank you so much, Dr. Phil. I appreciate everything," Jennifer says.
