Erin's biggest challenge has been to soften her emotions. "Dr. Phil calls me the "ice queen," but he's really helped me to break through those walls, to become closer to my family, to open my heart up."
As she works on becoming more emotionally available and honest, Erin's relationship with Marty is changing. "Marty and I are in a new place now," she says. "There's so much more of him now than there was five months ago. We still need to take our relationship to a deeper level and it's going to require me to trust myself, allowing myself to go to places that I haven't let happen."
Erin is confident that she is a different person. "I don't think that I'm the 'ice queen' anymore," she says. "I'm willing to go into those dark places and look at some of the painful things in my life and know that I'm going to survive."
"Absolutely," he answers. "I have really resolved a lot of things in my life and I feel that my foundation is starting to get firmer and it's not about who's right and who's wrong, it's about feeling happy."
Dr. Phil tells Marty: "You've lied, cheated, withdrawn — you've done virtually everything that you could do wrong. How do you think that's going to resolve itself going forward?"
When Marty says that he wants to leave his past behind and move on, Dr. Phil reminds him that he first has to clean up the mess that he's made.
