Getting in the Middle
Lauren finds success with some of Dr. Phil's dating advice.
"Guys just don't come up and talk to me at these events. I don't know why. They just don't," says Lauren, who went to a singles party in Chicago sponsored by Match.com.
"You got out in the middle of things, which tells people: 'I'm here to participate. I don't think I'm too good for this,'" says Dr. Phil. "Go figure ... You put yourself in a target-rich environment and you had fun!"
This time, however, she made a conscious effort to seem more available and friendly by standing in the middle of the room.
"People actually came up and talked to me," she says. "I was kind of surprised."
He goes on to talk about the importance of first impressions. "Everybody makes a statement," says Dr. Phil. "Don't be something you're not, but think about the statement you're making."
Ask yourself: Do you know what first impression you make? If you don't, ask someone who will tell you the truth.
