The Dr. Phil Family Returns: Lie

Caught in a Lie

"Is there anything about this that you haven't told me or your lawyer?" Dr. Phil asks Katherine.

"No. I've told you and him, and that's everything," she says.

Dr. Phil's not buying it. "Did you tell your attorney that this was an ex-boyfriend?" he asks.

"I did tell him that, because I was just afraid," she says.

"If you told your attorney he was an ex-boyfriend, you're not telling him the truth, and they're going to know that," Dr. Phil says, adding that she also visited with her boyfriend against her lawyer's wishes.

"I was just afraid that it would incriminate me more," Katherine says, as to why she lied to her lawyer about him being an ex-boyfriend.

"He's on your side. You have to tell him the truth," Dr. Phil stresses.

Katherine says she admitted it later in the conversation.

[AD]"When you were talking to my producers last week, you said [your boyfriend] is a bad guy," Dr. Phil says. "What is the truth?"

"He loves me very much, and when I got in trouble, he did everything that he could to get me out of trouble," she says.

"Why did you tell the producers that he was a bad guy?" Dr. Phil probes.

"I was afraid it would further incriminate me," she says, crying.

Dr. Phil implores Katherine to tell the truth.

Dr. Phil asks Katherine about her drug use. She admits to smoking marijuana a couple times a week and using cocaine six months ago.

"Smoking marijuana in Florida is a crime," Dr. Phil tells her. He adds that if she gets busted in possession of marijuana, while she has a charge against her for filing a false report, the judge is not going to think she's a good kid.

[AD]Dr. Phil also learns that Katherine sometimes drives while high. "You're putting yourself in harm's way that way. You could get a DUI," he tells her. "If you've got problems with anxiety, then we need to get the appropriate methodology to handle that anxiety, whether it's therapeutically or medicationally. We need to do the appropriate thing, not treat it with marijuana … Don't self-destruct."

Katherine's boyfriend, Sean, is behind bars, charged with three third-degree felony charges and will soon face a judge. She says she loves him and that he is innocent.

Dr. Phil tells Katherine the hard truth about Sean. See how she reacts.

"I don't want you to settle," Dr. Phil says. "You are a stunner. You are smart, you are beautiful, you are energetic, you're talented, you're creative. You don't have to settle for second best. If you want a man in your life, he needs to meet really high standards. He's not the kind of guy who's going to have you in any situation where you wind up in jail, ever again. We have to make some changes here."

[AD]Dr. Phil tells her he's worried about the crimes she's been charged with, as well as the possibility that she may be arrested for a DUI or get caught for possession of drugs. "You start stacking charges, you're going to do time," he says.

"I can't. There's no way I'd survive in jail," Katherine says, fighting emotions.

"Then you have to make sure that what you're doing is not risky," Dr. Phil says.
