"Dr. Phil, we need to be chosen for your weight loss challenge," pleads Annette in her video submission.
"She needs your help, Dr. Phil. So do I," says Emilie, her college roommate.
Once on the show, the young ladies stand backstage wearing soundproof headphones. Dr. Phil has the college roommates brought onstage. "What are you guys doing here?" he asks.
"Well, we want your help really, really badly!" Annette replies.
"We've come to the realization that we're overweight "" Emilie begins.
"By the way, this is a test," Dr. Phil jokes. Then a solemn look replaces his smile. "Are you guys seriously into this?"
"We're seriously into this," Annette says. "There are so many things that I do to myself and to others that sabotage Emilie. I eat. I don't exercise."
Dr. Phil reads Annette's observations on junk food. "'I'm big anyway, so why would it matter if I had a candy bar?'" he says.
"It tastes good," Emilie chimes in.
Dr. Phil turns to her. "You put yourself down all the time, right?"
"I do," she replies.
"So [the candy bar] tastes good, but you don't think you look good," he observes.
"No, I don't. I look at myself in the mirror, and I'm disgusted."
"Do you support her or sabotage her?" Dr. Phil asks Annette.
"I'll admit; I do sabotage her," she replies. "I don't support her weight-loss goals."
When Emilie admits that she sabotages her roommate as well, Dr. Phil says, "So you two are bad for each other. Maybe I should just pick one of you instead of both of you."
When the women protest, Dr. Phil says, "You've got to understand, if you were to get in this with me, there is nowhere to run, there is nowhere to hide. I will have cameras everywhere you turn. I will have people watching you. I will have people informing on you. I will call you at 2:00 in the morning and chew you out, if you didn't do what you were supposed to do that day. I will be your worst nightmare."
"You've already got me shaking," Annette says with a laugh.
"We're ready for it," Emilie says.
Dr. Phil has a surprise for the young ladies. "You're the first team in the Ultimate Weight Loss Solution!" he says.
The women jump up and down, screaming with joy.
"You know this is a competition, so if you falter, you can get kicked out first week," Dr. Phil warns them.
"It's not going to happen," Annette vows.
"Bring it!" Emilie says.
