Dr. Oakley has more than 25 years of clinical experience since founding the Center For Cognitive Therapy in 1987 and has been training advanced Clinical Psychology Graduate Students at UCLA for 25 years, since 1988. He is currently a Full Clinical Professor at the UCLA Department of Psychology, which is the highest academic rank awarded to Clinical Faculty. The rank of Full Clinical Professor is not automatic, requires evidence of substantial contributions to the field of Clinical Psychology (not just to UCLA), and is achieved by less than 10% of UCLA Clinical Faculty. Due to Dr. Oakley’s record both in the UCLA Psychology Clinic and in the community, he was advanced to Full Clinical Professor in 2002.
Dr. Oakley founded the Center For Cognitive Therapy in 1987 and is considered an expert in Cognitive Therapy and Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT), which are highly effective, short -term, evidence based treatment approaches. This type of therapy emphasizes skill acquisition so that individuals are able to quickly understand and manage their problems effectively and independently of mental health professionals. Average length of treatment is typically in the range of 12 to 16 weekly sessions, but can be of shorter or longer duration depending upon each individuals circumstance and goals.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Oakley has also consulted with hundreds of corporations, businesses, municipalities and individuals to improve and maximize performance. He most recently consulted as a Sport Psychologist with the 2013 UCLA Baseball Team who won their first World Series National Championship in the history of UCLA as well as the UCLA Swim Team who also improved their national rankings significantly. Regardless of your current difficulties, Dr. Oakley’s approach will be designed to help you to perform more successfully with life challenges.
