Tom says he feels like he and his wife, Karen, are “under siege” in their own home. “At night, I put our house in complete lockdown,” says the retired military officer who claims he barricades his wife and 9-year-old daughter behind locked doors while he stands vigil against their 15-year-old daughter, Madison.
“I don’t know whether Madison is going to attack us with a knife or not – but I don’t want to find out,” he says.
TELL DR. PHIL YOUR STORY: Is your family a stressed mess?
The couple says Madison is out of control. They claim she smokes, drinks, does drugs, skips school, steals cars, and was recently involved in an 80-mph car crash following an alleged armed robbery.
Tom claims Madison has been charged four times with domestic battery for physically attacking him, but each time he’s dropped the complaint. “She’s my daughter and I don’t want to negatively impact her future,” he says. “As much as I want this to be a difference maker, for her to go through the judicial system, in the end, I … I don’t want to crucify her.”
What’s driving Madison to act out in the ways her parents describe? Part one of this two-part Dr.Phil airs Wednesday. Find out where to watch here.
