Fred Goldman Questions if Kardashian Fame May Be Used to Promote Story of His Son’s Death

          February 8, 2016

Fred Goldman, father of Ron Goldman, who was killed alongside Nicole Brown Simpson, says he is bothered that his son’s death is being turned into an entertainment television show in the upcoming miniseries, “The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.”
In an interview with Dr. Phil, Goldman says he believes Ron’s death is being sensationalized, and fears that the program will be “tainted” and “twisted,” especially since he says he was never contacted by producers for any input. Goldman points to a scene in the miniseries in which Cuba Gooding Jr., who portrays Simpson, threatens to kill himself in the bedroom of Kim Kardashian, the daughter of Simpson’s attorney at the time, Robert Kardashian.
“My concern about that was that the name Kardashian had no relevance, no one even knew the name during the trial,” Goldman says. “Now, all of a sudden, today, because the Kardashian name has become something that everybody recognizes, that now that that was used as, maybe, an attention getter.”
But Jeffrey Toobin, author of the book that inspired the miniseries, The Run of His Life: The People vs. O.J. Simpson, says that the movie is a truthful portrayal of events and was made with great respect for the victims. “We can never appreciate the pain that you and your family have gone through, and the Browns have gone through,” he says to Goldman.
The 10-episode FX miniseries, which premieres February 2, explores the 1994 trial of former professional football star O.J. Simpson, who was tried for the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman — in a case that has been described as the most publicized criminal trial in American history — from the perspective of the lawyers and is rumored to reveal never-before-heard wheeling and dealing that went on behind the scenes.
On Monday’s episode of Dr. Phil, Toobin shares insights and revelations as to what occurred during the trial. Plus, hear from Nicole’s sister Tanya, and Brian “Kato” Kaelin, who says he questions the authenticity of the series.
