Why A Teen Says She Believes Her Parents Look At Her As ‘Damaged Goods’

          January 10, 2018

Madie says she believes her parents, Beth and Jim, don’t love her and regret adopting her at birth. “My mom said that she wished she would have thought more about this adoption. When I heard that, I felt rejected, unloved,” says the 18-year-old.

TELL DR. PHIL YOUR STORY: Betrayed by a loved one?

She claims that from the time she was diagnosed with ADHD and bipolar disorder at age 9, her parents have treated her as though she were disabled. “I ended up taking a bunch of different medications. It just made things worse,” she says.

Beth claims that Madie lies, steals and is sometimes physically abusive and that her daughter’s behavior is a direct result of mental illness.

Madie says her parents are just looking for something to be wrong with her, “So that they are able to hide their own faults.”

“My parents look at me as damaged goods and that they would give me back if they got the chance,” says Madie. Why does she claim she feels “disposable”? Tune in to Wednesday’s Dr. Phil.
