          Cruise Ship Disaster

          January 20, 2012

On Friday, January 13, the Costa Concordia cruise ship, with over 4,000 passengers and crew members, set sail at 7 p.m. from a port near Rome. Two hours later, disaster struck when the ship ran aground off the coast of Tuscany, killing 11 and injuring at least 42, with 21 passengers still among the missing. In an exclusive interview, Americans Dean and Georgia share their horrifying story and how they worked together as a family to survive.

          Immediate Chaos
Dean and Georgia and their two daughters were among the fortunate who were rescued, but they say they were certain multiple times that they were going to die. Did the crew fail to provide adequate evacuation instructions? Did the captain, as he claimed in an interview, remain with the vessel until the very end? Hear the shocking Coast Guard audio recording of a conversation with Captain Francesco Schettino.

“Just like you would see on the Titanic; bodies flying, things falling from the ceiling.”
