38-Year-Old Accused of Being Inappropriate With Niece Gets What Dr. Phil Calls ‘Sobering Wake-Up Call’

          June 14, 2016

Thirty-eight-year-old Kevin says that when his brother-in-law died two years ago, he stepped up to help his 14-year-old niece, Grace, who he says was extremely depressed. The two developed a close relationship, and now Grace’s mother and her sister fear Kevin may be engaging in an inappropriate relationship with the teen – an accusation Kevin completely denies.

Dr. Phil points out to Kevin a few incidents where Kevin was accused of questionable judgment with his niece, including asking her to lick whip cream off his neck, hanging out with her in her bedroom behind closed doors, sending her a letter stating, “I love you in ways I can’t even describe,” and allowing her to sleep on the floor in his bedroom while his wife was in another room, and says to him, “The truth is I think it looks a whole lot worse than it is, but what I’m trying to impact upon you is how bad it looks.”

“I agree,” Kevin says. “I’m not trying to hide anything. I’m here; I’m an open book.”

In the video above, Dr. Phil asks Kevin about the Valentine’s Day gift he gave Grace.

Dr. Phil tells him, “You have run red lights, you have crossed boundaries with her. Personally, I don’t think you’ve molested this girl.”

          “Of course not,” Kevin says.

“I think that’s a matter of timing,” Dr. Phil adds. “I think you could lose yourself in this relationship. You have incredibly bad judgment … I’m telling you, you’re headed for peril here … I’m trying to give you a sobering wake-up call before you do something incredibly stupid.”
