Hector Campos says he lived peacefully next door to Ana and Scott Weed in the quiet community of Spring, Texas for 12 years. But he says their relationship grew contentious after his wife gave birth to their daughter in 2016.

In an exclusive interview with Dr. Phil airing Wednesday, Campos says that when his wife’s mother came to visit from Mexico to see her granddaughter, she would go next door and visit with Ana’s mother. “I did not know what was going on. I later found out that the mother-in-law was telling them that I was a bad husband,” he claims. “She called me a rapist and then abusive husband.”

Campos claims that after that, Scott came to his house and asked him to come outside. “He pretty much wanted to fight me. He was drunk,” Campos claims. “Ana came back a few minutes later and she apologized. Then Scott came over the next morning, and he apologized.”

The tensions between the neighbors reportedly continued to mount and on January 24, 2017, Campos shot and killed Ana, in what he claims was self-defense.
