“I was mortified,” says Abby Honold, recalling the immediate aftermath of her violent rape at the hands of fellow University of Minnesota student Daniel Drill-Mellum in the fall of 2014.
In the video above, Abby tells Dr. Phil that she was sitting in an ambulance waiting to be taken to a hospital emergency room, while being interviewed by two Minneapolis police officers. She says, “I remember asking if I could call my mom, and that one of the officers said ‘No. This is pretty embarrassing for you. You can call her later.’”
Abby says she remembers two male officers making comments to each other about how intoxicated she was. She admits she had been drinking with friends at a tailgate party just prior to being attacked by Drill-Mellum in his apartment. Abbey says she later discovered Drill-Mellum had inflicted between 50 and 60 lacerations during the attack.
