"Our Sister Lived in the Bushes and Tried to Hire Someone to Kill Her"
Ann Marie and Jackie say their sister, Colleen, lives in a world of make-believe where she constantly plays the victim and lies for money and attention. They say she once even paid a homeless man to try to kill her, so they would think she was dead. How does Colleen explain her behavior? And, why do Jackie and Ann Marie continue to enable Colleen?
World of Make-Believe?Jackie and Ann Marie say they are mentally, emotionally and financially drained after years of supporting Colleen, whom they call delusional and a habitual liar. They say Colleen has disappeared for days at a time and once lived in the woods for two weeks — and paid a homeless man to try to kill her. They also claim Colleen has faked a heart attack, falsely accused a neighbor of rape and most recently told them she’s receiving treatments for cervical cancer — which they believe is just another lie. Despite the drama, they say they want to see Colleen get her life back on track.
Colleen insists she's just misunderstood. “I’m not a liar, and I'm not delusional,” she says, adding that she has struggled with alcohol addiction. She says her recent two-week stint in the woods occurred during a relapse. "When I actually sobered up, I thought I was only gone for a few days," she explains. "That was the day I decided I didn't want to be on this earth anymore. That's when I tried to get the guy to kill me. I hired him to strangle me with a bed sheet. I gave him my iPhone. I paid the 50 dollars. The gentleman choked me out. I didn't die, obviously. And he said he wouldn't do it again." She says she also tried to hire another man to overdose her on heroin. "We partied, and he just eventually said, 'I'm not doing it,'" she says.
