          Dr. Phil Takes on Abusers

          June 07, 2005

Every nine seconds a woman is assaulted and beaten by a man she loves. In fact, physical abuse occurs in two-thirds of all marriages at least once. Why is domestic abuse so rampant and how can the cycle be stopped? Also, Dr. Phil gets a rare glimpse into two private therapy sessions, at the world renowned Tubman Family Alliance, with abusers and victims in various stages of recovery.

          Hostile Husband
To the outside world they seem perfect, but Michelle says she’s been taking a beating at the hands of her husband, Aaron, for four years.

Dr. Phil’s advice for stopping the abuse.

          Raging Wife
Erin says she regularly punches, scratches and knees her husband in the groin. Despite the violence, they both say their relationship is stronger than ever.

How is Erin’s rage affecting their son?

When the show is over, Dr. Phil offers more advice to the couples.
