A Stern Wake-Up Call For Mother Who Admits To Enabling Son’s Drug Use

          April 11, 2016

Brenda’s son, Tyler, has been arrested 14 times, put in jail 13 times, and has been through drug treatment programs nine different times.

And every time Tyler is thrown in jail, Brenda bails him out. She also continues to give the 29-year-old shelter, food and money as needed.

Brenda, and her husband Richard, turned to Dr. Phil for help in getting her son’s life turned around, but it was Tyler’s parents who found themselves on the receiving end of some sound advice from Dr. Phil.

“As a parent, I can understand how heart-wrenching it would be to think of your son in jail or on the street,” he tells Brenda. “I know that it’s easier for me to say it than it is for you to do it.”

“You’re so close to it, that you’ve lost objectivity,” Dr. Phil cautions her. “Your behavior is what is allowing him to continue to poison his blood and his brain.”
