Former USA Gymnastics national team doctor and Michigan State University osteopathic physician Larry Nassar is serving 40-175 in prison on charges of child pornography and multiple counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with young women and girls.

In a civil suit against MSU, Attorney Jamie White says he helped to secure a $500 million settlement from the school for 332 survivors of Nassar’s abuse; but there were obstacles that could have allowed the university to pay nothing.

“There were significant issues associated with the statute of limitations,” he says, noting that most of the victims’ claims were for incidents that took place outside the three-year legal allowance.
