According to Customs and Border Protection, over 200,000 migrants were caught crossing the U.S. southern border in June 2022. Six of those apprehended were on the terror watch list. FBI director Christopher Wray has said the staggering number of people crossing the U.S.-Mexican border poses a “significant security issue” that can be exploited by terrorists.

Immigration attorney Saman Movassaghi Gonzalez says there are multiple issues that need to be dealt with. “You have to make legislative changes in the congress. Our immigration laws are super old,” she says.
 
Brandon Judd, President of the National Border Patrol Council, says, “This is all cartel driven, and the cartels are generating billions of dollars in profit on our policy. This issue is easily solved, yet there is no political will to do it.”
