Annemarie Carrigan is a 22-year-old graduate of the University of Central Missouri, where she studied journalism. She is also the subject of the new documentary film, Normie, which, according to director Kurt Neal, explores the “illusion of normal” through the lens of Down syndrome.

“I think it draws people to look at their own life, which is what we’re really after,” he says, noting that the idea for the film came from the idea of Annemarie’s thoughts about her diagnosis and feelings of being lonely.

“It’s very comforting knowing that the truth is all out there,” says Annemarie, who calls the film one of the greatest journeys of her life.
