“We have no national statistics for youth sports, so we’re all actually sort of guessing,” says Kimberly, who advocates for lowering the age of entry into collision sports for kids.

Barak says he has “seen the bad side” of sports injuries and wants better protections for kids but insists the risk of sustaining a brain injury is not high enough for him to keep his children off the field.
