‘Dr. Phil’ Digital Exclusive: The Importance Of Finding Care For Your Specific Condition
Philecia says when she was 29, she found a lump in her breast and was told that it was a benign cyst. Eight months later, after seeing seven different doctors, Philecia says she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer that had spread to her lungs, lymph nodes and sternum.
Now that she is in remission, Philecia says she’s once again being gaslit by doctors. “I am personally being gaslit for the PTSD, for the trauma, for the brain fog with chemo and all that stuff,” she says in the Dr. Phil Digital Exclusive video above. “I’m still not getting the proper aftercare that I need after all the trauma that I’ve been through.”
On Wednesday’s episode, “Medical Gaslighting: It’s Not All in Your Head,” Dr. Phil discusses medical gaslighting, when a doctor dismisses a patient’s health concerns sometimes as nothing more than the product of their imagination. Hear from a woman who says she saw 30 different doctors within five years for migraines before she finally got a diagnosis, and another who says she was told to drink soup and listen to calming music to help symptoms. Plus, hear why a 27-year-old competitive runner needed to use a wheelchair and have open heart surgery. Check local listings to see where you can watch.
