Autumn and Mark say they’ve been camping in the Arizona desert ever since they both lost their jobs in 2020. The unhoused couple, who says they don’t trust the government, has no money, no running water, no bathroom, and sometimes has to scrounge for food.

Autumn and Mark claim they like having an “independent” lifestyle in spite of living around dangerous wildlife and without modern conveniences, but admit they’d like to do better for themselves. They say they aspire to buy enough land to live off the grid and become self-sufficient.

“As soon as you can afford that, I think you ought to do that,” says Dr. Phil, advising the couple to take progressive steps to meet their goals.

When he suggests their first step might be to try to find a place where they can live and work together on a ranch or at an animal rescue, how do Mark and Autumn respond?
