When actress Natalie Wood drowned near Catalina Island, off the coast of Southern California in 1981, she and her husband, actor Robert Wagner, along with Wood’s then co-star Christopher Walken had been spending Thanksgiving weekend onboard the couple’s 55-foot yacht, “Splendour.”

Natalie Wood’s death was initially determined to be an accident. Then, in 2011, the investigation was reopened, because of reported new recollections of the night Natalie Wood died from the boat’s former captain, Dennis Davern. “The police actually went to Hawaii where the “Splendour” is now, and they took Dennis and they conducted noise tests to prove what he was telling them was true, says Dylan Howard, Investigative journalist and host of the podcast Fatal Voyage: The Mysterious Death of Natalie Wood. He says what Dennis claims to have heard that night “is chilling.”

Robert Wagner has been named as a “person of interest” in the reopened investigation into Natalie’s drowning. The actor adamantly denies any involvement in Wood’s death, and no charges have ever been brought against him.
Wagner no longer owns the boat on which his late wife took her final voyage. Watch the video above for a virtual tour of the “Splendour” from the yacht’s new owner, Ron Nelson. Then tune in to part one of this two-part Dr. Phil on Thursday to learn what two new witnesses are saying about Dennis Davern’s version of events.
