Honors Student Gets Special Commencement After Pandemic Forced University To Cancel Graduation
Tomás is a recent USC graduate who says he dreamt of walking across the stage in his cap and gown with his immigrant parents watching.
“I’m so lucky to have them, and everything that I do is for them,” says Tomás, who was born in the United States and is the first person in his family to graduate from college.

Tomás says graduating with honors should have made him the happiest guy on earth. Instead, he says he was disappointed when, because of the coronavirus pandemic, USC canceled in-person commencement and held the ceremony via a video conference call instead.
