How a Genetic Genealogist Is Using DNA To Help Solve Seemingly Unsolvable Cold Cases
Many people are familiar with the popular DNA ancestry websites, and have even used them to unlock their heritage. Now, these websites are helping to solve seemingly once unsolvable cold cases.
TELL DR. PHIL YOUR STORY: Have A Story In The News?
CeCe Moore, the Chief Genetic Genealogist at Parabon, co-founder of the Institute for Genetic Genealogy, and considered the foremost expert in the field of genetic genealogy, uses her expertise and DNA websites to help solve cold cases. She has been able to help police identify possible suspects, and her work helped arrest a suspect in the Ramsey Street Rapist case, as well as 38 other cold cases.
If you want to help crack a cold case, once you have your DNA test results, you can download the raw data and upload it to the public websites GedMatch or Gedmatch Genesis. “If [people] do that, and they make it public, then that’s available for us to help law enforcement resolve these cold cases,” CeCe says.
