Life Coach Mike Bayer recently visited an elementary school to help a group of fifth-graders and their parents learn to express their feelings in a clear and identifiable way. Using the Best Self Anti-Self exercise from his New York Times best-selling book, Best Self: Be You, Only Better, Coach Mike asked both parents and children to draw and describe their best self – the positive attributes and qualities that make up the core of who you are – and their anti-self – the inner critic that gets in the way of being your best self by focusing on negative qualities – and then share the results with each other.

“It’s important for parents to do this exercise with their children so they can see what’s going on. And also, it’s important that they do it for themselves so that they can be the best parent they can be,” Coach Mike says.

Watch the video above to see how the exercise is done, and what the children reveal to their parents about their feelings and emotions for the first time. And, see what the moms and dads learn about themselves.
