Rebecca says she believes that her best friend, Jane, is being scammed by her online boyfriend, “Jonathan,” who claims he is being held “hostage” on a construction site in Miami until he can pay off his debt.

“When I look into Jonathan’s heart, I see a very kind person,” says Jane, admitting she’s never met him face-to-face.

Jane acknowledges that she has sent “Jonathan” money via wire transfers and cryptocurrency, totaling nearly $1 million. She says she plans to send him more from the sale of her home so he can pay off the remainder of his debt. “He will no longer be hostage – he’ll be mine,” she says.

Jane’s Aunt Patty says she believes “Jonathan” is a “classic scammer,” and she’s concerned about her niece’s emotional health as well as her financial well-being. Jane says nearly everyone in her life believes that “Jonathan” is a scammer, but she doesn’t want to hear it anymore.
