          October 12, 2018

Chance and Lorreine admit that their marriage is filled with arguments, physical fights and accusations of abuse.

TELL DR. PHIL YOUR STORY: Marriage on the rocks?

Lorreine’s mom, Linda, says she has witnessed the downfall of her daughter and son-in-law’s relationship and that it’s time they either end the chaos or go their separate ways.

“Every time Chance and Lorreine have a fight, Lorreine comes to my house for protection. Chance ends up coming over to the house too, and they continue to argue,” Linda says. “I am concerned for her safety. I cannot tolerate them acting like two young children.”

In the video above from Friday’s episode of Dr. Phil, Dr. Phil sheds light on what may be causing the couple to behave as they are.

“You’ve been violated on more than one occasion,” he says to Lorreine. “When that happens, emotional development is arrested at that point, because you go into an emotional fetal position. And then, if you start to come out of that and it happens again, then it just compounds that.”

To Chance, he says, “When you go through trauma in your family life, your emotional growth is stunted, and so it’s not like you’re consciously choosing to do some of the things you’re doing, but you do the best you can with what you have at the time, and right now, you guys are functioning like a couple of middle or high school kids emotionally.”

Hear more from Dr. Phil in the video above. And, knowing what they know now, do Lorreine and Chance still say they would have gone through with their marriage?
