Ex-spouses, Terry and John, claim their son, David, is neglecting his 2-and-a-half-year-old toddler and forcing the child to live with him in his pickup truck and a homeless shelter. Asserting the boy wears dirty diapers and is under-stimulated – they also claim the toddler is malnourished: drinking old milk out of a moldy sippy cup, and eating only one meal a day, claims David denies.
TELL DR. PHIL YOUR STORY: Explosive drama dividing your family?
“I am a very good father,” says David, who claims he takes his son to the park every day. He admits there have been days when the boy doesn’t eat at all, but says that’s not because he doesn’t have enough food – it’s because he’s not feeling well. “Those days I make sure that he does have supplements; where he – like – he drinks Gatorade or he drinks some sodas so he can have some caffeine and some sugar in his system – that kind of thing.”
“If I had a home for my son to be in with me – that’s where we would be. But this is what we’ve got for now” says David, who admits his current situation is “unacceptable.”
“The whole thing about being a parent is putting the child’s interests ahead of your own,” says Dr. Phil.
