When speaking with Dr. Phil on Thursday’s episode, Melinda admits that she has blurred the boundaries as a parent – but says she’s often at a loss with how to parent her teen and acts more like a sister or friend because she claims Cassidy likes her better that way.

“I think you have abdicated your role as a parent,” Dr. Phil says to Melinda. “The thing about parenting is it’s not a popularity contest. That’s not your job. Your job as a parent is to prepare your child for the next level of life.”
