“When you’re your best self, you’re being your authentic self, so our best authentic self,” says Life Coach Mike Bayer. “The anti-self is the characteristics that we think get in the way of being our best self.”

TELL DR. PHIL YOUR STORY: Dealing with extreme conflict?

The New York Times best-selling author of Best Self: Be You, Only Better, meets with two young moms to help them identify their best self and their anti-self so they can be the best version of themselves for their children.

Celia and Ciara are half-sisters who were raised in two completely different households. Celia was raised by their biological mother, Claudia, and grandparents, and says that the woman who “birthed” them took out her anger on her, and that she had to steal to have food to eat. Ciara was placed in an open adoption with an upper middle-class family and had parents and a brother who loved her. She says Claudia always promised her things but never followed through. Both women say they are ready to cut ties with Claudia for good.
