At 25, pop star Demi Lovato has been clean and sober for six years. The entertainer who started out as a child actor on the PBS television series Barney & Friends in 2007 developed an eating disorder and began using drugs and alcohol at age 12.

TELL DR. PHIL YOUR STORY: Life in crisis?

At 18, Lovato was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and at 19, she says she “bottomed out.” It was then that she met Mike Bayer. The performer credits Bayer with saving her life.

“What do you think when you hear her say that?” Dr. Phil asks Bayer on Tuesday’s episode.

“I mean she, she saved her own life. I was just fortunate to be a part of that process,” he responds.

Mike Bayer is Founder and CEO of CAST Centers, a dual diagnosis and treatment center based in West Hollywood, California. After she completed the sober living program there, Lovato joined Bayer as a partner in the dual diagnoses and treatment facility.

“You know, it's not normal that someone would have been a client and then they become a partner of a place,” he says, adding, “But then when she came around and was like, ‘I want to open up a treatment center.’ I mean we have a close relationship and we love each other. And that's why we even do CASTonTOUR so that we can continue that.”

CASTonTOUR combines concert performances with motivational speakers to raise awareness about addiction and mental health issues. Tune in to Tuesday’s episode to learn how it’s being received by Lovato’s fans and find out what happens when Dr. Phil appears at one of the CASTonTOUR events.
