Man Explains Why He Didn’t Attend His Girlfriend’s Funeral

          September 13, 2017

Dan and Katie’s daughter, Samantha, took her own life in October 2016 following what her boyfriend of two years, Jonathon, describes as a “particularly stressful time” for her, in graduate school – and in their relationship.

TELL DR. PHIL YOUR STORY: Caught in a downward spiral?

Dan and Katie, who say they believe Jonathon bears some responsibility for Samantha’s suicide, claim he has never offered them condolences on her passing and didn’t attend her funeral.

Jonathon – who was in law school at the time – says on the day of Samantha’s funeral, he had to be eight hours away to take a licensure exam.

On Monday’s episode, Dr. Phil asks him, “So you didn’t attend the funeral because you had something that was more important?”

“I wouldn’t say that,” Jonathon responds. “I didn’t attend the funeral because I thought the healthiest way for, for me to grieve was to put all of my energy into my schooling and my work, and I didn’t want to let this disrupt the progress I was making.

"How does Jonathon respond when he’s asked whether he was with another woman on the day Samantha died?
