Man Says Teen Son Has Been In Trouble With The Law And The Juvenile Justice System Has Failed Him
Santiago claims his son, Bryce, has run over a police officer, crashed a car into a house, has stolen cars and led police on a high-speed chase, yet has only been charged with a crime one time and has never been locked up. He says the juvenile justice system has failed to scare the 15-year-old, and he’s concerned his son will “end up in a box.”
Bryce says he doesn’t listen to his dad because “he tries to control my life,” and that he’s ready to be an adult.
When a child is choosing the wrong path, what is the legal system’s responsibility? Can parents rely on the juvenile justice system to provide resources to get their child back on track, or should the system solely provide punishment and lock them up? On Monday’s episode of Dr. Phil, “How Should We Treat Juvenile Delinquents?” hear what parents, a former police officer, and a judge have to say. Check local listings to see where you can watch.
