Laura claims she took her 4-year-old daughter and traveled cross-country from their home in Pennsylvania to protect herself and her child from her estranged husband, Joe.
While Joe insists Laura had made threats about harming herself and their daughter, Laura claims Joe is the one who had been abusive and even threatened to kill her and his child – claims which Joe denies.
“Joe has repeatedly told me that he was going to kill me. He had threatened me with obtaining a gun from his father,” Laura claims. “With the violence increasing, we fled. The only thing I could think of was putting distance between us.”

Laura was eventually arrested in Utah, when U.S. Marshals located her at a gas station with her daughter in the car. She was charged with multiple counts of kidnapping and interference of custody; however, after two days of trial, she was acquitted of all charges.
Following her acquittal, Laura says she anticipated being reunited with her daughter – but that was not the case.
