Early on New Year’s Day, 2020, security footage from a doorbell camera at a home in Las Vegas captured a woman running toward the house, banging on the front door. Next, the video shows a man coming up behind her, throwing her to the ground, kicking her, and dragging her by her hair into a car on the street before speeding off. The homeowners, who were not home when the incident occurred, sent the video to police, who released it to the media, asking for the public’s help in identifying the people in the recording.

The next day, 23-year-old Darnell was arrested and charged with first-degree kidnapping, coercion, and three counts of battery constituting domestic violence. The woman seen in the video with him was his girlfriend at the time. The now former couple’s month-old baby, who was in the car at the time of the incident, was unharmed.

“He told me that he and his girlfriend had got into a fight,” says Darnell’s mother, Lovie. “Darnell said, ‘She’s taking the baby away from me, and she’s leaving me.’ His words were slurring – he was so drunk,” she adds.

Lovie says her son is not a monster and claims that if Darnell hadn’t been drinking that night, the incident would never have happened. And later, why does Darnell claim he doesn’t have any memory of the incident at all?
