“My life in the FLDS was horrific,” says Marrilynn, a former member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who escaped nearly seven years ago. “I started being abused sexually between the ages of 4 and 5. I was abused by family members, neighbors and friends … Many times, I was told this is what God wanted, and, ‘If you had been more obedient and more submissive, it wouldn’t happen.’”

The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was led by Warren Jeffs until a decade ago, when he was arrested and sentenced to life in prison. According to reports, members of the FLDS marry as young teens. It is also alleged that children are sexually abused by older men and have babies as young as 14 years old. Despite Jeffs being behind bars, some of his devoted followers are still active and dispersed across the country – and Dr. Phil, who has been deeply involved in covering this story for over 13 years, vows to continue until the alleged abuse stops.
