Tom and Karen have agreed to send their 15-year-old daughter, Madison, to Center for Discovery; a residential therapeutic program specializing in serving children, adolescents and adult women in crises. They claim Madison drinks, takes drugs, steals Karen’s car, and has been in trouble with the police more than 100 times.

The couple also says Madison has become a bad influence on her 13-year-old sister, Liz, who – the parents claim – is following in the older teen’s footsteps.

A sobbing Madison begs her parents not to send her away – or at least to let her sister go with her – Liz objects on Madison’s behalf. A decision is made to enroll Liz in Center for Discovery as well – but in a location separate from Madison.
